Fethiya Mohammed; a top ten finalist from the 2005 Miss Universe-EthiopiaŽ
pageant and who won “Miss NationŽ” title for presenting the Best Ethiopian National costume at the 2005 Miss Universe-EthiopiaŽ
National costume presentation show, has gone one step further by winning “BEST African Queen” at the 2005 Miss
Tourism Queen International contest which concluded on Saturday 2nd July in China,
She was representing Ethiopia for the first time and competed against Tourism
Queens from 72 other countries, the final show was televised live to almost 1.2 billion viewers in Asia and the run up to
the grand finale featured several weeks of fashion shows, cultural shows, entertainment and visits to places of cultural interest
in China, The girls all got a chance to promote their various cultures as spokespersons
for their countries as well as learn about other cultures. They also got to travel very extensively during the competition.
His Excellency the Ethiopian Ambassador to China was on of the many Diplomats
and dignitaries who attended the event, and he was pleasantly surprised to find that a young Ethiopian girl was proudly representing
his country at the event!
Fethiya’s trip to China which was sponsored by the Ethiopia Life Foundation,
and is a further continuing effort of the Ethiopian Life Foundation and the Miss Universe-EthiopiaŽ organisation to positively
promote Ethiopia and Ethiopian culture on a global platform, and is testament to the fact that you don’t have the be
one of the 3 National Queens; Miss Universe-EthiopiaŽ, Miss Ethiopia-WorldŽ or Miss Tourism-EthiopiaŽ to represent Ethiopia
at an international event, as all top 10 “Princesses” from the Miss Universe-EthiopiaŽ pageant have wonderful
opportunities to travel out and proudly represent their country, as the Miss Universe-EthiopiaŽ Organisation, and the Ethiopian
Life Foundation strongly believes that hard work loyalty and dedication should always be rewarded.
It should be recalled that in 2004 The Ethiopian Life Foundation proudly
sent representatives from Ethiopia to an unprecedented 14 International engagements as Ambassadors for Ethiopia such as: Miss
Universe 2004, Miss World [Univ] 2004, Miss Tourism Planet 2004, Miss International, Miss Earth 2004, Miss Model of the world
2004, Best Model of the World 2004, Top model of the world 2004, Miss Tourism International 2004, Miss Tourism of the Globe
2004, just to mention a few,
This opened up doors and gave Ethiopia a Global platform to showcase
its rich and proud culture with other nations at several grand events, the year 2005 is still young and with many more exciting
adventures and opportunities available for young Ethiopian Queens, the sky is the limit.
